Why Airocide Air Purifier Works When Filters Don’t?

Filters can’t eliminate all of the organic matter from the air. The small stuff still gets through. That’s the conclusion from some of the brightest minds in air quality science today. Our filterless air purifier technology represents a disruptive change of thinking; destroy airborne organic matter and molecules regardless of size.

What Happens Inside Our Filterless Air Purifier ?

Airocide’s fan draws in airborne organic pathogens like allergy triggers, mold spores and fumes from household chemicals (VOCs) and slows them down, dispersing them across a densely packed matrix of hollow glass tubes. As they contact this catalytic surface they are broken down at a molecular level – the catalyst strips away their carbon atoms until the organics are destroyed. The process, known as oxidation, is safe, highly effective and produces no ozone or other harmful byproducts.

NASA created it and used it on the Space Station to eliminate ethylene gas. Today it’s known as the Airocide Photo-catalytic Reaction Chamber and it’s what powers every Airocide air purifier. This is what makes Airocide the best filterless air purifier.

Why HEPA Air Purifiers Can’t Get The Small Stuff.

Think about a screen door. Large particles are prevented from passing through it, while smaller things, like tiny particles, waft through unaffected. Filters work the same way. They’re ineffective against smaller particles. HEPA filters don’t destroy anything; they just trap what they can for later disposal. The result is that those smaller things, viruses and gases get past them.

Safe, Effective And Simple To Maintain.

Airocide is FDA listed as a Class II Medical Device and produces no ozone. Unlike filters, which typically consume a lot of energy, the Airocide air purifier uses very little power and takes up far less space than conventional filter systems. The only maintenance required is an annual replacement of our Reaction Chambers. The process takes about thirty-seconds and involves no mess. And, if you’ve ever changed your printer’s toner cartridge, consider yourself overqualified.

Forward Design With Beauty And Purpose.

Airocide’s interior void is more than eye-catching. In addition to its obvious visual cue, no filter here, components are arranged around the void to provide the precise amount of air-movement for optimal performance from our catalyst.

Using the Coanda-effect aerodynamics, air is drawn in the front of the vent, across two Catalytic Reaction Chambers and then amplified across a fine lip at the back center of the void. This ‘throws’ clean air into the room while using the least amount of power.

Traditional Air Purifiers Capture Particles

High Efficiency Particulate Absorption( HEPA )air filters capture particulate down to .3-microns in size.

Electrostatic Precipitators High CFM (cubic feet per minute) particulate collection devices capture particles using the force of an induced electrostatic charge.

Airocide Eliminates Particles

Unlike filters that have lesser capacities to remove particles of different sizes, the Airocide reaction is effective in the degradation and complete oxidation of all particle sizes, including tobacco smoke, pollen and dust utilized in rating filtration systems. Additionally, Airocide reactors also remove gases, odors, volatile organic compounds as well as decompose living biological components such as mold spores, bacteria and viruses. Filtration and electrostatic based systems are incapable of doing this.

Hepa (High Efficiency Particulate Absorption) Air Purifier

HEPA Air Filter Pluses

HEPA air filters capture particulate down to . 3 microns in size. Dust mites, pollen, mold spores and bacteria fall within this size range.HEPA air purification is often used wit high-speed fans to accelerate the capture of airborne particulate although often quite noisy, this provides rapid capture of airborne particulate sized.3-microns and larger. Speed is measured in terms of clear air delivery rate (CADR).

HEPA Air Filter Risks

Gases and many viruses are not stopped. Inhaled gases and viruses travel deepest into the gas exchange area of the lungs where gases enter the bloodstream.Some of what is captured, living organisms like mold-spores and bacteria can continue to grow after capture on the filter itself. A few colony forming microbes can quickly become many.

As the filter fills up the filter matrix gets plugged up. Airflow chokes. If the air-pressure behind it is high enough to push air past this barrier – some of the captured microbes can be forced through the filter and into the room.

Changing a HEPA filter often results in re-contamination of the air column being filtered as captured microbes become dislodged and re- enter the air-stream.

Effectiveness ratings – CADR (clean air delivery rate) are ratings designed to compare filter based air cleaners to each other in terms of how much air they push through a filter but do not apply to other, more advanced air cleaning technologies. NOTE: if the air has not been completely cleaned the device is simply moving around dirty air.

Ionic Air Purifier

Most ionizing (or ionic) air purifiers work silently, releasing a steady stream of negatively charged ions into the room air to electrify bits of dust, dander and other matter in the airstream.

Negatively charged particles become strongly attracted to positively charged collection places inside the machine.

Ionic air filters attract particulate including dust, cigarette smoke, pollen and pet dander. As positively charged collection plates are used, there are no filters to replace.

Ionic Air Filter Risks

Ionic air purifiers are ineffective against odors, gases and biological agents.

To varying degrees, all ionic systems release ozone, a powerful oxidant that attacks anything organic … including our eyes and lungs. The California Air Resources board has banned all devices that create an ozone concentration of more than 50 parts per billion (ppb).

Without fans Ionizers don’t effectively collect particles from more than a few feet away. Like filter based systems, ionizers lack the internal mechanisms to clean sub .3-micron particulate from the air.

Effectiveness ratings – CFM (cubic feet per minute) are ratings that measure the amount of air passing through the system not how much of it is actually cleaned.

Moves a high volume of air through the device measured both by CFM and CADR methods.

Electrostatic Precipitator Risks

Electrostatic precipitators are ineffective against odors, gases and biological agents.

Precipitator performance is very sensitive to electrical resistivity and particle size distribution.

With high CFM performance, airflow may be so strong that particles pass completely through the device without contacting the collection plate.

An electrostatic precipitator is useless against a particle that cannot be charged.

Like filter based systems, electrostatic precipitators move a great deal of air but lack the internal mechanisms to clean gases, viruses and biological agents from the air.

Activated Carbon (Charcoal) Air Purifier

An activated carbon or charcoal filter air purifier is charcoal that has been treated with oxygen to open up millions of tiny pores between the carbon atoms. This medium is widely used to adsorb odorous substances from gases.

Often employed as a secondary capture mechanism behind conventional filtration systems to reduce odors and gases.

Activated charcoal air purification is good at trapping other carbon-based impurities (“organic” chemicals), as well as things like chlorine.

Activated Carbon Air Filter Risks

Once all of the bonding sites are filled, an activated charcoal air filter stops working.

Activated charcoal is not effective against larger organic particulate such as pollen, dust mites, pet dander and other allergy triggers.

May begin to degas captured impurities once all bonding sites are filled.
